主流の交通手段はオートバイ / Main transportation here is motor cycles.

フランス統治時代に建てられたバロック様式の美しいオペラハウス　現在の名称「市民劇場」 The Opera House built under French rule kept beautiful renamed the Municipal Theatre.

さまざまな呼称の変遷を経て今は「統一会堂」。1975年4月30日この建物のフェンスを北ベトナム軍が戦車で超えた瞬間に首都は陥落しベトナム戦争は終結した。メモリアル的建築物。/ The building underwent several names in its complicated political history, and now is called Reunification Palace or Independence Palace, where they ended the Vietnam War April 30 1975 when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates.

混雑した街中で午後3時ごろ一層人が大勢集まっているところは学校周辺。父兄達が下校する子弟の迎えにオートバイでやってきている。3人乗りは当り前、6人乗りも見かける。壮観！/ In the jumble of the city centre Saigon, particularly  densely crowded spots are in front of school gates  in the late afternoon. Parents come to pick up their school children by motor cycles. It is a spectacle! Some motor cycles carry so many people as 3, and others 6.

公園には平和が・・・/ Peaceful park now

タ・プロームを巡ったのち再びシェムリアップ空港からベトナム航空でホーチミンへ飛ぶ。船は私たちがアンコールワット遺跡を巡っている間航行し今日はホーチミンのサイゴン港ロータスポートに11：00に入港しているはずである。サイゴン港といっても海からサイゴン川を河口から50キロほど遡った港。サイゴン川はカンボジアから続いていて、この地域で水運、水源という大きな役割を果たしている。。

ホーチミン市は今でも私のなかでは「サイゴン」。クメール語で「カポックの木が茂る森」の意味をもつサイゴンは懐かしい街。

After touring Ta Prohm, we flew to Ho Chi Ming from Siem Reap Airport by Vietnam Airline. Our ship ASUKA II scheduled to arrive at Lotus Port, Saigon at 11:00 am that morning. It had kept cruising while we were away at Anchor Watt Ruins. Saigon Port is not a sea port, but a river port about 50 km from the mouth of the River that flows down through Cambodia and reach the sea in Vietnam. The river plays a big role as water transportation and water source.

Saigon means in Kuhmer ‘The Thick Forest of Ceiba”.  I hold good memories and nostalgia about the place. Ho Chi Ming City is still Saigon in me.
